A year from now we should see an iPhone with a totally unimpeded display. That is according to Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known Apple analyst. Eventually, says Kuo, Apple may be willing to place its front-facing camera and Face ID under the screen for its high-end devices, so this would mean that the iPhone 16 Pro would be the first one to receive such an upgrade.
iPhone 14 Series Alleged Specs Leaked and it is amazing
Kuo predicted this in a pair of tweets, linking back to comments he made last month which argued that Apple won’t release any new iPhones with fingerprint readers under the screen in the next two years. (Kuo predicts this might happen sometime in 2023 at the earliest.) The reason is Kuo’s view that demand for the return of Touch ID was mostly a response to the rise of masks. But now that Apple has been working on Face ID in recent months, complaints about its efficacy have largely vanished.
It follows, then, that this is a great idea. After all, my experience with Face ID on a mask has been great. It’s not quite perfect, meaning I can live without an under-display Touch ID sensor. But the more interesting question is how Apple will do with an under-display front-facing camera. plus the leaked specs for the new iPhone this year were wrong – we’re still a few years off a hole-punch camera.
Apple M2 Chips: The most powerful CPU Ever Made
Interestingly, the analyst’s comments are in line with his earlier estimations. Previously, he had speculated that Apple no longer planned to launch an iPhone with a Touch ID scanner beneath the screen. What you’re seeing instead of a biometric security feature is Face ID, which is already being implemented on most iPhone models. Apparently, another analyst Ross Youn predicts that under-display Face ID will be implemented in the next iPhone.
On the other hand, the next iPhone(14 series) which is coming out this year will feature a much smaller notch for its cameras. The next iPhone, which is due in 2022, will feature a punch hole for the sensors needed for Face ID and the front camera. Remember that the iPhone 16 is not expected to be released for at least two years, so please be wary of this report until it proves to be accurate.
