SD 888+ vs Dimensity 8100
Recently, Mediatek has lunched its sub flagship Dimensity 8000 series in MWC 2022, Barcelona. This series was targeted for competing for the last year’s flagship from the World know smartphones chipset manufacturing company Qualcomm. So, today in this post we are gonna compare the last year’s Snapdragon 888+ flagship chipset to the latest launched Mediatek Dimensity 8100 chipset. So let’s start the comparison.
Core Structures
Both the Snapdragon 888+ and the Mediatek Dimensity 8100 uses the 5nm architecture. These are octa-core chipsets with the following specifications:
- Dimensity 8100 uses 4 Big cores Cortex-A78 at 2.85GHz and 4x power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.
- The Snapdragon uses flagship’ level tri-core cluster featuring one super core Cortex-X1 at 2.99GHz with 3 medium cores Cortex-A78 at 2.4GHz & 4x power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz
So, on paper Snapdragon 888+ seems to be more powerful than that of Mediatek featuring the latest X1 cores.
RAM & Storage
Although, both are the flagship models’ chipsets. Though, each one supports the latest LPDDR5 Quad-Channel RAM at 3200MHz has the same bandwidth of 51.2GBps. Moreover, you will get the support of UFS3.1 storage on both devices.
Eventually, both chipsets have 4MB L3 cache, 1MB L2 cache & 512KB L1 cache. At the same time, the maximum supportable memory is 24GB on both processors. On the other hand, Snapdragon 888+ offers a better ARMv8.4 instruction set instead of ARMv8.2 present on Dimensity 8100.
Network & Connectivity
Both chipsets are flagship-grade 5 G-enabled chipsets. Though, both are too Many 5G bands. Snapdragon 888+ provides the WiFi 6E, Bluetooth V5.2, dual-band GPS, NFC, 8×8 MU-MIMO, USB 3.1 port. Moreover, you will get up to 7.5GBps download speed with up to 2.5GBps uploading speed on 5G with Qualcomm X60- RF 3rd gen modem.
On the other hand, Mediatek uses its latest R16 5G modem giving its the capability of mmWave(sub 6GHz), power-saving modes. Moreover, it supports up to tri-band GPS, the latest Bluetooth V5.3, WiFi 6E. But, it supports only 4×4 MIMO, decreased 4.7GBps download speed.
While bot re very much similar options. Mediatek only overcomes Qualcomm in GPS & Bluetooth. While the Snapdragon 888+ is very much better in speed, connectivity, MIMO & many more.
Display & GPU
Although, Mediatek hasn’t provided any details to support 4K capability. Dimensity 8100 only supports QHD+ display up to 120Hz & FHD+ display at 168Hz. While the Snapdragon boasts a display capability of up to 4K at 60Hz & QHD+ at 144Hz. So, in terms of display, Snapdragon wons the comparison. Both processors are capable of providing Dolby Vision, HDR10+ up to 10-bit. Even more, you will get variable Display Sync technology, Heterogeneous processing in this chipset.
The last year’s flagship Snapdragon 888+ uses Adreno 660 Graphics at 840MHz. While Mediatek has used a Mali-G610 MC6 Graphics card under the hood. Both GPUs are capable to support up to 200MP single camera, 4k video recording & HDR playback. While the Snapdragon also supports 8K video recording at 30FPS& 4k recording at 120FPS.
Speed Comparison
The Snapdragon 888+ & Mediatek Dimensity 8100 seems to have similar performance
- Dimensity 8100 scores up to 1052single core & 3748 in multi-core. While the Snapdragon 888+ scores up to 1182 single-core & 3901 in Multi-core at Geekbench V5.
- Antutu V9 shows Scores up to 820k for Mediatek while Snapdragon has up to 850k scores. The native GPU scores 315k for Mediatek & 329K for Snapdragon.
- So on, you got 125-130 Centurian mark scores for Mediatek & Snapdragon 888+ host up to 131.3score.
Winner
Since both chipset very similar performance. The Snapdragon 888+ is considered the winner providing many other features ls like 8k video record, better speed & more.
Eventually, Dimensity 8100 is a great chipset provided by Mediatek. It will be more cost-effective & offer similar performance. Many brands also considered this processor in their upcoming phones too.
