Exynos 1280 vs SnapDragon 778G
Although these days, Samsung has brought up their new mid-range chip with their A-Series & M-Series phones. Moreover, the Exynos 1280 is the latest phone taking up the pace in the upcoming Samsung M33 5G & Samsung A33 device. so, let’s compare this chip to the early mid-range category processor Snapdragon 778G from Qualcomm. It was also a decent chip available in Samsung M52 5G & many other phones.
Both processors are 5G while 778G seems quite old and launched in Q2 of 2021. While the Exynos is a very new chipset and launched only some days ago i.e. Q2 2022.
Core & Architecture
- The Last year’s Snapdragon 778G chip uses a tri-core cluster based on 6nm architecture. It uses 1x 2.4 GHz – Kryo 670 Prime (Cortex-A78), 3x 2.2 GHz – Kryo 670 Gold (Cortex-A78) & 4x 1.9 GHz – Kryo 670 Silver (Cortex-A55).
- Meanwhile, Exynos 1280 has a dual-core cluster with high-performance Cortex-A78 at 2.4GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 at 1.8GHz. Eventually, you will get it on Samsung 5nm architecture too.
Although, both are very same to use similar cores while Snapdragon 778G seems better in single-core while Exynos gets its better in terms of Battery efficiency & On paper Performance.
RAM & Storage
- The Exynos supports the latest UFS 3.1 RAM. Eventually, you will get Quad Channel RAM up to 16GB at 2750MHz support on this chipset.
- Snapdragon on the other hand also supports the UFS 3.1 Storage. Meanwhile, it has Dual Channel RAM but with a 3200Mhz frequency.
So, in terms of RAM performance, Exynos sons the comparison.
Network & Connectivity
- The Exynos 1280 supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth V5.2, NFC, dual-band GPS. But it won’t have any info about NAVIC support. Similarly, the download speed offered by the chipset is 3.67Gbps Max and the upload speed 1.28GBps Max.
- Snapdragon 778G gets the support for WiFi 6E, GPS ( with NAVIC), NFC, Bluetooth V5.2 & More. Eventually, it gets the Snapdragon X53 5G modem offering 3.7GBps peak download speed & + peak upload speed.
So, in terms of network & Connectivity, Snapdragon seems to be a lot better than the Exynos.
Display & GPU
- The latest Exynos 1280 chip supports the QHD+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, it uses the Mali-G68 MC4 graphics at 1000MHz for gaming. It provides HDR 10+ support and video recording capability up to 4K at 60FPS. This processor offers the 108MP sensor support max while no info about dual-camera support.
- The Snapdragon 778G uses the Adreno 642L GPU giving up to FHD+ 144Hz resolution support. Meanwhile, it has only 4K 30FPS video recordings available. You can use up to 192MP sensor with this chip and 36MP+ 22MP dual camera support too.
So, this comparison shows Snapdragon is leaking behind the Exynos chipset.
Benchmarks
- The theatre Snapdragon 778G chip scored around 526K in Antutu V9 with 153K alone in GPU & 160K in CPU. It has around 760 single-core & 2804 multi-core scores in Geekbench 5 followed by 118 point scores in the Centurian mark.
- The latest launched Exynos 1280 scores only 382K in Antutu V9 with around 93k CPU score & 121K GPU score. Eventually, it scores around 744 single-core & 1877 Multi-core scores in Geekbench V5. Moreover, the Centurian mark scores are around 115 points.
Although, in terms of Benchmarks, even the Exynos 1280 equipped with similar cores & better GPU scores are very poor considered to the Snapdragon 778G.
Exynos 1280 vs Snapdragon 778G: Winner
Though, Exynos has enabled a better GPU Mali G68 MC4 at 1000MHz. There are the same graphics available in Dimensity 900 series. While the benchmarks don’t better for Exynos 1280. Though it needs very many optimizations to do so. While the Snapdragon 778G is a very optimised chipset available in the market at the mid-range series.
We considered Snapdragon 778G winner in Performance while Exynos Amy provides better battery efficiency. Moreover, it also needs very much improved thermals as Samsung always lacks to do so in the Exynos series.
