According to a recent report by News18, BGMI, the popular online multiplayer battle royale game, is expected to make a temporary comeback in India for a duration of 90 days.

The game had previously been banned in the country in July 2022 due to concerns surrounding privacy and safety. This ban resulted in the removal of BGMI from both the Google Play Store and App Store, leaving fans disappointed.

However, the news of a potential unban brings a glimmer of hope for Indian players eagerly awaiting its return.

Temporary Resumption of BGMI in India

Krafton, the developer of BGMI, had proudly announced that the game had amassed over 100 million registered users in India before the ban took effect. The Indian market had become a significant stronghold for the game, making the ban a major setback for esports enthusiasts and dedicated players.

Despite the ban, Krafton has persistently made efforts to bring the game back to India, although these endeavors have been unsuccessful thus far.

As per the recent report, the government of India is now considering lifting the ban on BGMI for a period of three months. However, this revival comes with certain conditions and will undergo rigorous scrutiny from the authorities.

An official from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has indicated that an order for the unban is anticipated to be released soon.

Conditional Unban and Scrutiny

The approval for the unban is said to be conditional, contingent upon thorough analysis and re-evaluation by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Throughout the three-month period of the temporary unbanning, the game will be closely monitored to ensure compliance with Indian regulations.

Krafton has reportedly assured authorities that the game will incorporate a built-in timer to discourage excessive gameplay, addressing concerns related to prolonged usage.

Additionally, the developer has committed to modifying the game’s graphics by removing blood by default. Previously, players were able to alter the blood color from red to green or blue, but this feature will now be set to the default option.

Awaiting Confirmation and Official Announcements

Although Global Esports CEO Rushindra Sinha briefly mentioned the news of BGMI’s return to India in a tweet, the post has since been deleted. Sinha refrained from divulging further details due to confidentiality clauses.

Industry expert Rishi Alwani has also confirmed the news and provided an overview of the conditions imposed by the government for the 90-day unban.

However, neither Krafton nor the government of India has made any official announcements regarding the unban at this stage.

It is advisable to exercise caution and await an official statement from the relevant authorities before drawing any definitive conclusions.

The potential upliftment of the ban on BGMI brings hope to the game’s passionate fanbase, who eagerly anticipate its revival within the Indian gaming landscape.
