Samsung recently announced its new SoC Exynos 2200. This SoC’s GPU aims at bringing Ray tracing and other PC and console GPU features to smartphones. So, lets discuss the details that we got about this SoC.
CPU
Exynos 2200 features three types of ARM Cortex cores: Single Cortex -X2 is the powerful core in the SoC, three Cortex -A710 are the balanced performance and efficient cores and four Cortex -A510 are the power efficient cores.
Architecture and GPU
This SoC is built on the 4 nm EUV process technology. Exynos 2200 SoC will come with a new custom made GPU named Samsung Xclipse 920. It is based on the AMD RDNA2 architecture. This will be a unique GPU as claimed by Samsung.
This Xclipse 920 GPU will bring Ray tracing to smartphones. Ray tracing technology simulates real life light behavior in virtual worlds. This can provide realistic and immersive graphics and effects in games. This GPU will also bring Variable rate shading in smartphone games.
Camera features
This SoC will support upto 200 MP in single camera mode, Single camera 108 MP at 30 fps and Dual camera 64 MP +32 MP at 30 fps. It will also support 8K video recording upto 60 fps.
Display features
Exynos 2200 will support display of 4K upto 120 Hz refresh rate or QHD+ upto 144 Hz refresh rate.
RAM and Memory features
This SoC will support UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM.
Other features and Launch
This new GPU and CPU will come with a new and improved NPU. The AI engine will feature Dual core NPU and DSP. The 5G modem will also work with sub-6 Ghz and millimetre wave frequencies. The SoC will also support GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo.
Exynos 2200 is expected to launch in Febuary 2022 with the Samsung Galaxy S22 series smartphones.
