Snapdragon 870 vs Dimensity 8100
The Mediatek Dimensity 8100 & Snapdragon 870 chipset, both are the sub Flagship processor available in entire smartphone markets. This has many differences while it will feature in similar category Smartphones eventually we have seen the Realme GT Neo 3 & Redmi K40S available in this market.
Core Structures
The latest Mediatek Dimensity 8100 uses the TSMC 5nm process while the Snapdragon 870 has a 7nm architecture.
- Dimensity 8100 uses 4 Big cores Cortex-A78 at 2.85GHz and 4x power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.
- The Snapdragon uses flagship’ level tri-core cluster featuring one super core Cortex-A77 at 3.2GHz with 3 medium cores Cortex-A77 at 2.42GHz & 4x power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz
So, we considered the Dimensity 8100 to be better and uses better gen cores while the Snapdragon 870 offers higher clock speed & Core structure.
RAM & Storage
Although, both are the flagship models’ chipsets. Though both support the latest LPDDR5 RAM & UFS 3.1 Storage. While
- The Dimensity 8100 offers 51.2Gbps memory speed with 3200Mhz Ram frequency. Eventually, the CPU supports up to 24 Gigabytes of Quad Channel RAM.
- The Snapdragon 870 chip have 44GBps bandwidth & with 2750Mhz RAM frequency. This chip has only Quad Channel 16GB Ram support.
So in this comparison too, the Dimensity seems to be better in the segment.
Network & Connectivity
Both chipsets are flagship-grade 5 G-enabled chipsets. Though, both are too Many 5G bands. Snapdragon 888+ provides the WiFi 6, Bluetooth V5.2, dual-band GPS, NFC, 2×2 MU-MIMO, USB 3.1 port. Moreover, you will get up to 7.5GBps download speed with up to 2.5GBps uploading speed on 5G with Qualcomm X55- RF 3rd gen modem.
On the other hand, Mediatek uses its latest R16 5G modem giving its the capability of mmWave(sub 6GHz), power-saving modes. Moreover, it supports up to tri-band GPS, the latest Bluetooth V5.3, WiFi 6E. Moreover, it supports 4×4 MIMO, with only 4.7GBps download speed.
While bot re very much similar options. Mediatek only overcomes Qualcomm in GPS & Bluetooth. While the Snapdragon 870 is very much better in speed, connectivity, MIMO & many more.
Display & GPU
- Although, Mediatek hasn’t provided any details to support 4K capability. It only supports QHD+ display up to 120Hz & FHD+ display at 168Hz. While the Snapdragon boasts a display capability of up to 4K at 60Hz & QHD+ at 144Hz.
- So, in terms of display, Snapdragon wons the comparison. Both processors are capable of providing Dolby Vision, HDR10+ up to 10-bit. Even more, you will get variable Display Sync technology, Heterogeneous processing in this chipset.
- The flagship-level Snapdragon 870 uses Adreno 650 Graphics at 670MHz. While Mediatek has used a Mali-G610 MC6 Graphics card under the hood. Both GPUs are capable to support up to 200MP single camera, 4k video recording & HDR playback.
- But the Mediatek Dimensity 8100 has powerful Graphics while playing games. While Snapdragon has better display support.
Speed Comparison
The Snapdragon 870 has less performance measurement than Mediatek Dimensity 8100 as per the benchmarks.
- Dimensity 8100 scores up to 965 single-core & 4071 in multi-core. While the Snapdragon 870 5G scores up to 954 single-core & 3421 in Multi-core at Geekbench V5.
- Antutu V9 shows Scores up to 820k for Mediatek while Snapdragon has up to 730k scores. The native GPU scores 315k for Mediatek & 239K for Snapdragon.
- So on, you got 125-130 Centurian mark scores for Mediatek & Snapdragon 870 host up to 122 score in Centurian Mark.
Winner
While both chipsets are up to notch processors available around 25-30K price category. We considered the Dimensity 8100 to be better in terms of Performance, features later gen cores, Bluetooth V5.3 & Wi-Fi 6E.
Eventually, Qualcomm outperforms this Mediatek chipset in download speed, additional features. But the Dimensity is more budget-friendly while the 870 chip offers better stability for Games & Apps. Also, see our Youtube channel for the video of this comparison.
