Qualcomm, a couple of weeks ago launched the Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chip with its very first 7 Gen1 chip that was enabled with Cortex-X1 core. The plus lineup from the company is the overclocked regular one with the model name AC added at the last.

While, we have not even used the current flagship by the company, a popular tipster on Weibo has leaked about the next flagship series chip named Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with model no SM550 (KAILUA) specifications.
Snapdragon 8 Gen2 Chip Core Structure
The current flagship lineup by the mobile chips manufacturers uses the tri-cluster architecture with 1 x special performance core, 3x semi-performance cores & 4x battery efficient cores. But this all going to be changed with next-generation chips.
Since the Gen 2 lineup will also follow the TSMC’s 4nm architecture used by the 8+ Gen1 chip, it is known that it gets a Quad-core cluster but have a similar frequency.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen2 chip will be featured with 1x CORTEX X3 (Makalu-Elp), 2x CORTEX A720 (Makalu), 2x CORTEX A710 (Matterhorn), 3x CORTEX A510 (Klein-R1) cores. For now, the actual frequency is still unknown to us.
Performance Comparison
Yeah, this is another key point to be noted down. The present chip even crosses the 1 Million mark in AnTuTu. Since the Cortex X3 core & Cortex A720 seems doesn’t make much performance from the current one but get some battery savings. You can expect these cores to gain 30% more performance over the Cortex X1 core ( present in Snapdragon 888).
At the same time, the chipset pairs the Adreno 740 GPU which will be the top class GPU of its time. While we won’t find any more info about its Graphics Processing unit for now. We only find that this one will also adapt the Adreno 730 architecture but have around a 20% performance uplift.
Snapdragon 8 Gen2 launch Date & First device
Qualcomm hasn’t released anything about the launch event of its Gen platform for now. You can expect this chipset to launch in Q4 of 2022. Similarly, the first device would be the Xiaomi 13 which will have this chipset.
